Master Keaton

Taichi Hiraga-Keaton

Master Keaton is a Japanese comics (manga) created by Hokusei Katsushika and Naoki Urasawa. It was serialized in Big Comic Original between 1988 and 1994 and ran for 18 volumes (144 episodes in total).

An anime version was aired between 1998 and 1999 in Japan. A total of 39 anime episodes was produced. It was dubbed in English and DVDs are currently distributed in US market.

The manga's target audience was Japanese men in their 20's and 30's, a rather older age group compared to other manga. It is a Sherlock Holmes-esque drama/mystery story surrounding a Lloyd's of London insurance investigator Taichi Hiraga-Keaton. He is half Japanese and half English, an archaeologist, an Oxford University graduate and a former SAS staff sergeant with intensive survival training. Many of the manga stories and television episodes depict how Keaton combines his academic, investigative and military skills to solve cases and save lives. Keaton married while at Oxford - his wife read mathematics at Somerville College - and later divorced, leaving his daughter Yuriko in her mother's care.

The first 'heavy' manga I read was Master Keaton, I don't know why, but it is interesting to see Keaton find a way out in a trouble. Master Keaton are the manga that I like so much.
